Understanding Anxiety

What is anxiety, and when does it become a concern?

Anxiety is a natural response to stress — it can help us stay alert in challenging situations. But when anxiety becomes persistent, excessive, or begins to interfere with daily life, it may be time to seek support.

Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health challenges, affecting people of all ages. Whether you experience constant worry, panic attacks, social anxiety, or physical symptoms like tension and fatigue, you are not alone — and effective, compassionate help is available.

At Brock Counselling, our therapists meet you where you are, without judgment. We work collaboratively to understand what’s driving your anxiety and build a path toward lasting relief.

Recognizing the Signs

Common signs of anxiety

Anxiety can show up differently from person to person. These are some of the ways it commonly presents — recognizing them is often the first step toward feeling better.

Emotional & Cognitive

Physical & Behavioural

Our Approach

How we support your healing

Our therapists use evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches tailored to each person. No two journeys look the same — and neither should therapy.

Understand the Root

We begin by exploring what's behind your anxiety — your patterns, history, and triggers — so that therapy addresses the cause, not just the symptoms.

Build Practical Tools

Together we develop coping strategies and regulation skills you can use in daily life — techniques drawn from CBT, ACT, and other proven frameworks.

Sustain Progress

As you grow, we adjust the focus to help you maintain your gains, strengthen resilience, and feel confident navigating anxiety on your own.

Treatment Approaches

How we work with anxiety

Our therapists draw on a range of evidence-based modalities, selecting and blending approaches based on what will work best for you.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Identifies and reshapes thought patterns that fuel anxious responses.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Builds psychological flexibility and helps you move toward what matters.

Trauma-Informed CBT

Addresses anxiety rooted in past experiences with care and sensitivity.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Supports emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness.

Solution-Focused Therapy

Builds on your existing strengths to create meaningful, lasting change.

Sessions are offered in-person, virtually, or by phone.
